Introduction
Habbox was founded in the summer of 2003 by Mizki. Habbox started out as a small project for Mizki but she soon started to realise that she needed other people to help her with the site. This is where Sierk came to learn of Habbox and he and Mizki soon became good friends and as Sierk took more of a development role for the site he was then handed the reigns and Mizki handed full ownership of the site to Sierk and he has been the owner ever since. In late 2009 Jin became Co-Owner of Habbox after many years working at the site as Sierk no longer took an active role in the ownership of Habbox.
2003 - 2005
As mentioned above Habbox was initially the pet project of Mizki, a former UK Hobba. Habbox was one of the original fansites ever created for Habbo and ever since it has gained it's official status as a fansite, then it has lost it and then regained it again. Habbox is one of those great institutions of Habbo which many could not live without. From the moment Habbox was opened, it has maintained popularity and has always been a first choice fansite for a lot of Habbo's.
Almost from the day it started, Habbox has been a massive hit with Habbos. So it comes as no surprise that Mizki needed quite a lot of people to help run the site and keep the interest to ensure people came back time after time. One person who made the largest impact on Habbox at this early stage was none other than Sierk. He developed Habbox a lot from what was originally on offer and as he took a more active and managerial stance at Habbox, Mizki felt it was time to hand ownership from herself to Sierk. This paved the way for many brand new features including rare values which has been the greatest legacy Habbox has ever made on Habbo.
Under the Hotel Management of the former Hotel Manager, Callie, Habbox became one of the first ever official fansites. Barely a year after opening it's doors to the great Habbo public! With this new found acclaim came great rewards for Habbox. In the Habbo Awards of 2004 with an astonishing 60% of the vote, Habbox was voted 'Best Fansite' which meant a lot to Habbox as it was voted for by the users. Not only that but Habbox was also awarded 'Most Helpful Male' which was awarded to the then HxHD Manager, DJ-3000 as well as 'Best Radio Station' of the year.
Just a short few months after receiving these three amazing awards, Habbox unfortunately lost it's official status as a fansite. Due to an incident on HabboxForum involving several members and Callie, the Hotel Manager she removed the official status of the fansite. She said that Habbox would never regain that status which you will find out to be untrue as you read on.
2006 - 2008
After Habbox lost it's official status as a fansite it didn't dampen anyones spirits. Habbox continued as the UK's favourite and most popular fansite despite not actually being an official fansite any more. Loyal users stuck with Habbox and Habbox also gained thousands more users.
Over the next two years Habbox really started to grow and pick up strength. There were now three officially affiliated sites of Habbox (HabboxLive - HabboxForum - HabboxWorld) all of which catered for many thousands of different people. From those who tuned into the radio and for those UK and International users whom enjoyed chatting about Habbo, Habbox, real life and everything in between.
On the 9th May 2008 Habbox once again officially became an official fansite. This came a long while after the former Hotel Manager, Callie had left office and the then UK Hotel Manager Lost_Witness had taken her place. After almost three years without the official status, Habbo launched an application process for fansites to become official, of course the wonderful Habbox and Habbo public voted for Habbox and we resumed our post as an official fansite. Not only did Habbox become official once more but a new title of a 'Gold Tier Fansite' was introduced to the two fansites which received the most votes as peoples favourite fansite. Habbox came first with ClubHabbo bringing up the rear in a close second place which put them both at the top of the league table as official gold tier fansites. From then, Habbox has kept it's official fansite status and doesn't show any signs of losing it any time soon.
In September 2008 just four months after being voted Habbo's number one fansite Habbox was nominated for and also won the following awards: 'Best Fansite News' 'Best Fansite Features' 'Best Fansite Forum' and the most prestigious award 'Best Overall Favourite Fansite'.
2009 - 2011
In 2009 saw the eagerly anticipated Version.04 of Habbox. Although some didn't quite like it as much as Version.03 it was a welcomed change to an ever changing face of fansites which it would seem Habbox often forgot change in sync with. 2009 also saw many management changes, more than there had ever been at Habbox. One of the most important and prominent changes was that of the long time serving member of staff, Jin. He had been staff for many years and also an administrator on HabboxForum and he would deal with many of the sites issues and problems. In 2009 Jin became an Assistant General Manager after many years and then he later became Acting General Manager then a few weeks later stepped up and became Co-Owner along with long time Owner, Sierk. Jin liases with the General Management team on a day-to-day basis as Sierk is no longer able to fulfil this role however still still maintains ownership alongside Jin.
In 2010 after almost 5 years of the same system, Habbox got a totally new Rare Values system. The thing which had made Habbox so famous and useful to its users was starting to become a little out of date and difficult to maintain with such a high volume of new Rares to add and value. With the introduction of the Marketplace in Habbo this helped Rare Values management keep the values up to date as fast as possible.
In the summer of 2010 came a massive change for Habbo which shook up fansites forever. Sulake decided that they needed to merge all English speaking hotels. This meant that the American, Australian, Canadian, English and Singaporean hotels into one. This meant that Habbox could now and would also have to cater for thousands of new users the merger bought with it. Up until this point Habbox had had little success with International affairs but the merge did wonders for Habbox and today still remains the most popular fansite for users.
2011 also bought many changes for Habbox. In March 2011 the eagerly anticipated Version.06 (Version.05 was missed somewhere in Version.04 updates). A massive team effort was made and it was successfully released and many feel it was the best layout Habbox had ever seen. It also incorporated many brand new features which no other fansite has ever seen including: moveable content boxes, widgets, interactive content and so much more. It is also planned that Habbo and HabboxLive will merge at some point later in 2011 all part of Version.06 of Habbox.
